About NEPI

History
The Network of Emergency Physicians, India (NEPI) was first conceptualized by Dr. Suresh David, Professor & Head, Dept of Accident & Emergency Medicine, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. The senior most emergency physician & a pioneer of emergency medicine in India, he is the founder of NEPI. A reference can be found in the January 2006 newsletter of the International Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group (IEMSIG) of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM)

Development
This idea was taken up by Dr. Imron Subhan, Consultant, Dept of Emergency Medicine, Apollo Health City, Hyderabad, who is the creator & administrator of EmergencyMedicine.in, the first website dedicated to emergency medicine in India. His freelance site, launched in May 2006, was already recieving admiration from the EM community. With his personal team & him working continously from Hyderabad, NEPI project took just a little over a month's time to launch and it went online on October 07 2006. The site underwent many transitions to reach its current stage & look. NEPI did not recieve any funding or external help and the site was developed, maintained & fully supported by EmergencyMedicine.in

Contributions
It was just a handful of the early members like imron, maroju, stemlyns, morpheus & others who started various discussions & kept them going through the initial months. Academic articles came from Dept of A&E, CMC, Vellore. Dr. Raj Maroju, Consultant in Accident & Emergency Medicine, Queen's Hospital, London, has been instumental in contributing to NEPI's discussion forums right from the start even till now. Despite residing in UK, he has added significant input to the academic discussions in NEPI during a time when EM was unrecognised in India.

Viewership
Crossing 250 members in Aug 2010, NEPI's activity & viewership has been increasing exponentially. NEPI was viewed by more than 21000 unique visitors from all over the world in the first half of 2010, indicating the tremendous interest in Indian emergency medicine! The current NEPI members are those who will forge the future of NEPI and every single of them is acknowledged.
