Hi,i iust logged to CEM UK site and found results of mcem part A that were held in hyderabad in july 2008 and i was shocked to see that nobody has qualified the exam.I want to ask in this case how will Apollo people fill the seats.
Now i m in fix whether i should apply for exam or not as i m thinkin is it worth to put in so much hardwork for having so much bleek chances of passing exam. |

MCEM part A, as the curriculum suggests, tests a candidate mostly on basic (pre-clinical) specialties with a slant on clinical relevance. It is very sad that no one from the said centre could pass. I feel that this depends on the individual candidate's preparation (firstly some book-work and then, more importantly, having a strategy or gameplan!!!).
It does not mean that the candidates were incapable. It also does not reflect on any institute. After all, these institutes are not coaching centres. They would provide you with the necessary exposure and also invaluable guidance.
If you look at the results for part B and C, the results are not that discouraging. Does that instill confidence in you?? Does that mean that the institute is doing well??
Whether you should apply for the exam or not depends entirely on what alternatives you have now and as to how badly you want to have this qualification!!! Please do not go by the 'trend'.
Good luck anyway...

Sorry Usuf, I donot know if that institute does any preparatory courses or not. I also donot know if any other institutes do. If you have the passion as you say, you certainly will do well.
Sadly, I can not advise you on any strategy... That, you should develop on your own as part of your preparation for the exam. There is an interesting and informative post on how you could prepare for this exam in the thread 'all about MCEM' for starters.

There is plenty of information on the internet.
Do as many relevant practice MCQs as possible. Form a study-group. Do some studying. Bounce questions off each other. Do more MCQs. By then, you'd probably have some idea of playing the game....
You have got plenty of time for your exam. So, relax, plan well and prepare well...
Whatever you do, stop worrying of others' results!!!

apollo hyderabad is the institute which does gives the prep material.
but there are no classess as such
i would suggest you go and visit hyd.apollo if you have the means... you could start working there... and prepare for the exam at the same time. that is an option
it will give you enough contact with people who have taken and cleared the exam
but you will need to have your basics crystal clear.
the exam is not easy.
part b and part c are way easier to clear

tnx morpheus for ur reply,i wan to know do usa people recognise mcem. Are u ecfmg certified ,i have heard from a friend that u dont need to be ecfmg certified for research job is that true.
Can we do further specailisation in emergency medicine from usa on the basis of mcem or we have to qualify usmle exams(ecfmg certified). Moreover i want to know have u done ur mcem after mbbs or u hv also done md/ms.
I hope u wont mind me asking so many questions. |

hey usuf not a problem
no i did not do any md or ms
i finished my mbbs in may 2005 and joined mcem in june 2005
also i am not ecfmg certified... that means i have nto taken my usmles
you dont need that certification to do a research job here in the US.
u will have to qualify the usmle though if you want to specialise in EM from the US. there is no credit that is given for ur MCEM here, except that you may be considered better than the others for getting the residency in emergency medicine in the US
not a prob you can ask me all the questions u want.

Dear Guys,
Although your conversation is relavant and interesting for our readers, it is not appropriate in the thread titled MCEM PART A RESULTS.
To facilitate such posts, I have included a new forum section called CONVERSATIONS for public communication between NEPI members. I suggest you continue this discussion there.
Hey, Morpheus, You do the honours!
Thanks for your cooperation.
