MCI to obtain Emergency Medicine Curriculum from DNB
03-Mar-2012
Editors Desk
The Medical Council of India (MCI) is obtaining the curriculum for MD (Emergency Medicine) from the Diplomate National Board (DNB). The only minor issue with this move, is that the DNB has absolutely no idea about emergency medicine, considering that the DNB neither has any DNB (EM) seats nor has recognised EM as a specialty under its National Board of Examinations.
The reluctance of the MCI to take inputs from the Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI), which coincidentally is the oldest & largest body of experienced EM physicians in India, will only further delay the development of the MD (EM). We hope that the DNB will be more forthcoming in taking SEMI inputs. This, we believe, is likely to happen.
