Due to the lack of awareness of emergency medicine as a specialty, drug companies and medical representatives fail to recognise emergency departments as locations to promote their new products. This also leaves the emergency physicians ignorant about the new drugs / drug combinations and other products which are most useful in the emergency setting. A few of the various products which can be promoted in various emergency departments are listed out. Medical equipment Defibrillators, Automated external defibrillators, Cardiac monitors, Saturation monitors, ETCO2 detectors and monitors, Glucometers, Patient trolleys and emergency equipment, Infusion pumps, ECG / EKG machines, etc Drugs Most the drugs are used parenterally in the emergency setting. NSAIDs, Opioids, Antibiotics, H2 blockers, Proton pump inhibitors, Rabies and tetanus (both vaccine and immunoglobulin), IV benzodiazepines, sedatives, phenytoin.
